Physical vs mental
The race is in one month’s time! I am very excited and really looking forward to that day! Last week I received my race number, YY 38062 and the starting time is 10:36. The other day, Rochelle said something that I never thought of: Every sportsman has on and off days, no matter which sport you participate in. This is true, and I’ve experienced it from time to time. She warned me that even on the day of the race, I might experience an off day. How can I prepare myself for this mentally? I know my anxiety level will be high. I might even cry a bit before hand, but I won’t back down. I know that as soon as the race starts, the anxiety will drop and I’ll be fine!
Every day I work on developing a positive mindset that will carry me through. Whenever I think of that day, I visualise the moment I cross the finish line! When I’m on the road training, I control my thoughts and do not allow any doubt to creep in. When I feel an ach coming up in my back or knees when I’m training, I continue cycling. There is no need to stop and call someone to fetch me because of the pain. I either cycle a bit slower or even faster to get through it. I have the muscle strength to complete the race, no doubt. My body is well-trained and ready to take on the challenge!
The first thought that came to mind when we talked about it was prayer. I pray continually that I will have a good and exciting day, and that when the tears of anxiety or mixed emotions come, I’ll remain strong and confident that I’ll finish the race well!
