Bipolar is often cyclical

Bipolar is often cyclical, occurring at particular times of the year. Changes in biological rhythms, including sleep and hormone changes, characterize the illness. Changes in the seasons are often associated triggers.’ – sadag.org

Since the start of April I noticed a change in my mood.  My anxiety levels were higher than usual and anything small would trigger an anger outburst.
Then I remember that these mixed feelings are a normal symptoms for bipolar when the season change.  I understand that the change of season as an effect on all people, but the person with bipolar experience more intense.

There are a few things I put in place to make it easier.  I would make sure that I exercise, even if it is not as an aggressive as normal.  I set out thirty minutes in a day to rest and take control over the emotions.  I also make sure to take my medication on time to keep the cycle in place.  After doing this I started feeling worse.  I phone my psychologist for an appointment and she advised me to go see my psychiatrist.

The first question he asked was if anything dramatic happened in the past few months.  At first I said no, but then I looked closer and saw all the excitement of training for a triathlon, not just physically, but also mentally.  I took on two new sports at the same time and I had to learn new mindsets.

Then I was admitted into Vista for a week, but before I was admitted I thought that I was sick, but then I learned that I was only tired and needed to relax my mind.  Listening to music is one technique I use to help my mind unwind.  Getting out of the immediate environment sitting on top of a hill is just as good!

Taking a break to rest mentally is just as important as resting your body after a hard race.
