The Knee
On Thursday I had to do four hours on the road, but halfway through my route my left knee hurt so much that I had to turn around. This is not the first time that I have experienced knee pain, but never to this extent. I even stopped for a few seconds, but when I started again my knee could hardly pedal and I still had a long way to go before I reached the gym. I decided to keep on pedaling on an easy gear without putting pressure on the knee.Back at the gym, Rochelle was not surprised at the pain in my knee. She explained that the quadriceps go into spasm and there is a stiffness in the quad tendons in the knee. She said that this was one of the many new body pains/aches that I’ll experience. Her advice was that I must put ice on the knee for ten minutes, apply ointment and stretch it several times.
Friday I went to the gym and one of the personal trainers massaged the leg and stretched it.
Saturday night I was thinking not to do the sixty kilometers, but the forty. Thought I would rest my legs and knees a bit.
Sunday morning, I didn’t feel well at all! Everything spun around me. All the way to the starting point I kicked against the idea of cycling. I decided to use my muscle power for speed and not endurance, like I would have on the sixty. I passed a couple of cyclists, but then that hill came up and my front wheel touched the cyclist in front of me. I fell, but luckily he didn’t. Because of this most of the people I had passed, passed me again, but I managed to catch up with them all and finish well!
