Rewind

I love to get lost in good memories.  Every now and then, I enjoy watching old home videos.  It is such a joy to look back and experience all the laughter again.

There is one video that I am very fond of.  It was the first twenty-first birthday party in our family. I was about seven.  That weekend, the whole family came together on my uncle’s farm.  Early Saturday morning the preparations started.  In my immediate family, there are several musicians.  We went to the hall to set up the instruments.  On the video, you can see the ladies decorating the tables.

dVideo cameras were not so common so people did not know what to do when you caught them: ‘Oh no, not that thing again! Get Out!’  Everyone had a good time that night of the party!  All the recorded smiles, dancing and funny moments can tell hundreds of stories!   The party finished in the morning hours.  I remember my oldest brother, Nico, fooled around with the camera and as he focused on my mom, she said: ‘Nico, put the thing down! Look at the time.  Help us pack up!’
Obviously, there was a lot of good music that came with the party and whenever one of those songs plays, the memories are relived and a smile follows automatically.

I’m sure memories of your own came up as you read this blog.  Relive them by sharing with people: ‘Have I ever told you…?’ or ‘Do you remember that time when…’
Memories like these can often help a conversation along or bring relief when things get difficult at the office.
