Lovely

In ‘My Fair Lady’, the musical, Eliza Doolittle sings about how lovely it would be to have a few simple things.  She wants a room away from the cold with a big chair, a warm face, warm hands and warm feet with lots of chocolate to eat.

What would be lovely to you?

For me it would be lovely to go to sleep, have a good night’s rest without the help of medication.  To face the winter time with only a thick coat and a comfortable blanket without worrying about mood changes and the battle to keep control.

What a feeling it would be to cycle in a race and win it and wear that gold medal around my neck for only a day!  To have control over my hands and greet my mom one morning with a big cup of coffee in bed without spilling a drop?

Wouldn’t it be lovely?

But what is more lovely than that  is I can cook and there is a warm meal when she arrives home from work.  And I might not have a gold medal, but I have several others from all the races I have completed and I’m proud of them!
Winter might be a tough season for me but I know I can handle it if I stick to cycling and other training.

It is lovely to know myself and know what my limits are.  It gives me more courage to explore new things, because I know how to handle things when I get anxious and to withdraw when things get out of hand.
And so, life can still be lovely…
