Rewind

I love to get lost in good memories.  Every now and then, I enjoy watching old home videos.  It is such a joy to look back and experience all the laughter again.

There is one video that I am very fond of.  It was the first twenty-first birthday party in our family. I was about seven.  That weekend, the whole family came together on my uncle’s farm.  Early Saturday morning the preparations started.  In my immediate family, there are several musicians.  We went to the hall to set up the instruments.  On the video, you can see the ladies decorating the tables.

Play!

Play makes up such a big part of our childhood, however as an adult most of the time we feel that the only “play” we get, is when we are being played the fool. Therefore, play is seen as something that needs to be left behind as we enter adulthood and our focus turns more to the insurance of wellbeing.

To manage and improve our wellbeing we need to make sure that we are paying attention to all aspects of our lives. Unfortunately for many, as an adult, we feel that the most important aspects of wellbeing is based on material things. Wellbeing is based on thing like; do you have a job?; do you make enough money to support your family?; Are you relatively healthy?; Are you in good physical shape?

Blasts from the past

who are you

Good day everyone!

Have you ever seen someone in the shopping mall, and you recognised them from school or university or somewhere. The problem is just that you can’t remember their name. Then it’s this dance where you try to avoid them, just so you don’t have to get into that awkward conversation with them.

Well this happened to me today. I wont bore you with the excruciating detail. The good that came from it was that I got to reminiscing about old friendships, occasions and relationships.

Naturally some of them were not the best memories, but I chose to focus on the good ones and soon found myself smiling.

A good laugh, for instance, was the date I went on when I was sixteen; I took this gorgeous girl to a restaurant and in attempting to be all chivalrous I pulled out her chair and promptly went to sit down only to look up and find her getting up from the floor looking thoroughly annoyed. You see I pulled the chair out; I did not push it back again.Life isn’t all bad, even bad events can be used for a smile.

Laugh at yourself – its fun.

Have a tremendous evening everyone.

Office funnies

For the past month our Happiness HELPS theme was play and I think I got more than my fair share of it. You see, I am currently sharing my office (my very, very small office) with two male colleagues, who have what people may refer to as “playful” personalities. Others may call it being immature, but that is not what I am going to call it (or at least not on this blog). So during the past month I have been played the fool, played the butt of the joke, played along, was played music to and also just simply played.

Playing is super fun I have to admit, but having these two constantly being busy plotting their next prank or laughing out loud about their play on words is very distracting…..no really, VERY.

A testimony

I am content with my life!  The Lord and I went on a different kind of adventure this past year.  He blessed me with great things.  He created opportunities for me to speak about Him.  He showed me how powerful He can be if I let Him.  I’ve learned the act of obedience.  Whenever He gave me an idea for the blog, people came back with a touched heart.  Whenever I needed to do something that was not in my ability, He showed that it’s possible.  ‘Walk this way around the mountain and step in My footprints.’  He gave me a status that I am very proud of: Vista Clinic Happiness Helps ambassador!  That is the God I like to serve!  He is alive and hands-on   in my life and I know He won’t let me go! With a confident heart I cry out: Daddy catch me! And I know I’ll be safe in His arms!

I also learned more about myself:  I’m a true writer, a dedicated athlete and a creative artist.  I am not just a motivational speaker but I live out motivation!   And I love a beautiful bouquet of flowers!  Continue “@ 28”

8 Most frequent asked questions on mental health and faith

It is a new month and this month our Happiness HELPS focus turns spiritual. Spirituality forms part of who we are and when we are threatened by illness it is irrational to expect that our spirituality will not be affected. Many people diagnosed with a psychiatric illness have many questions regarding their faith and mental health. Here are 8 of the most frequent asked questions when it comes to spirituality and mental health.

LEWENSLIG

I was part of an outreach team that partnered with a team from America that ministers to people with disabilities.  Lewnslig Centre is a house for adults with disabilities, and is down the road from our church.

I chose to visit the men’s work place.  I was shocked when I saw that all they do from nine to twelve is sand down pieces of wooden blocks.  Marius is the supervisor.  I have a lot of respect for him.  He was in a car accident early in his life that left him physically disabled, but he used his disability to help the others.  The way he works with them is amazing.  Sometimes he has to be firm in order for them to understand.  Their communication levels are very limited.  Some of the guys are older men who have the minds of children and others can’t use their bodies like we do, but the way they persevere is incredible!
