When you choose life!
The day after I tried to commit suicide for the seventh time, I was in hospital and as I lay there, I thought to myself: ‘I tried to put an end to my life seven times in a row, but it doesn’t seem to work out for me. Let me choose to live! Maybe that will bring more reward in my hopeless situation.’
Ever since that day I looked at life in a different way, because I’m not just living a life. I choose to live my life.
Between my three older brothers, they have five children. Spending time with them is precious. Talking to them and trying to answer their questions is a joy. They are the next generation of our family so I would much rather spend time investing in their lives to help them make choices that would honour God.
My next door neighbor has a beautiful baby girl and whenever I hold her it feels as if I have a little piece of heaven in my arms. Somehow I feel closer to God too.
It’s funny how when you choose life you don’t judge people like you used to because you realise that it could easily have been you! It also grounds you in the sense that you are a human being and no better than anyone else. I’ve learned that my parents are humans too and that they also make mistakes, sometimes huge ones, but it’s okay because when you choose life, you choose to bless and not curse.
When you choose life, you choose to love, honour and respect God the Father, King Jesus your saviour, and your counsellor the Holy Spirit. But the reality of a broken world is also true.
James 1:2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
John 10:10 (Jesus speaking) “…I have come that they may have life in full.”
