HAHAHAHAHA!!!! O hi I was just doing some exercise!!

Exercise need not be you in your spandex suit with the latest app counting your steps. Exercise can be fun and easy, as easy as laughing. No really exactly like laughing. Laughter is a great way to exercise and has meany health benefits.

Dr. Lee Berk and Dr. Stanley Tan at the Loma Linda University in California have researched the benefits of laughter and found amazing results. Get ready to get your giggle on!

1. Laughing lowers blood pressure

People who lower their blood pressure, even those who start at normal levels, will reduce their risk of strokes and heart attacks. So grab the Sunday paper, flip to the funny pages and enjoy your laughter medicine. Continue “Exercise your funny bone!!”

FIFTH!

Last week, I decided to enter a forty kilometre cycling race which took place this past Sunday.  It was easy to train for and I didn’t foresee any problem for Sunday.  On Saturday night, I was confident about the race.

I decided to put all my muscle power into the race. When I turned around I noticed that I was struggling and wondered why.  Then I remembered my own words in my book: when your focus is divided between two thoughts, both are being neglected!  I was thinking about other things when my focus should have been on the race.  When I focused, it became easier and I even caught up with the two guys in front of me. Why mornings work better!

Exercise, for many, can feel like a drag after a long day at the office. We tend to do better in the motivation department early in the mornings and exercise might be that mental reset button we need to just get the day off to a great start.

You really care!
Your give it your all.
You do more than what is necessary
Without thinking twice,
because you know we need help.

Duathlon, 24 May, Germiston Lake

5km/20km/2.5km – run/cycle/run

I decided to enter the Para Duathlon sprint on Sunday.  It’s a category specially for people with disabilities.  There were only three of us: One guy who was much younger than me had no arms while the other guy who only had one leg was much older.  I believe that they had previously competed outside South Africa.  On their tri-suites it clearly read ‘RSA’ and it had our country’s flag on it.  They also knew each other quite well.

Food for thought!!

It is a new month and this month we are focused on LEARNING!!

The main machine we use when we learn is obviously our brains so before we learn more, let us look at some interesting facts of the brain.

DID YOU KNOW?….

1. About 85% of the total weight of a human brain is the Cerebrum—the region of the brain responsible for motor control.

2. Humans have the largest brain in terms of size ratio when compared to other creatures in the world.

3. The adult human brain weighs nearly 1.5 kilograms. While it makes up only 2% of a person’s weight, it consumes around 20-30% of the total energy.

Left or right?

During this month of learn we will be looking at some interesting facts about the brain and how we actually learn.

We all know some are more artistic and others more analytical. So my next question to you is… are you a left brain or a right brain?

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Wrong you are both. For many years it was believed that some people are more dominant in one part of the brain than the other, however this is simply not true. You use both left and right brain. Continue “Left or right?”

Sitting still

Two weeks ago, I house sat for one of my friends for thirteen days.  They have a full Dstv package, where at home we only have certain channels, so I enjoyed watching all my favourite shows. I recorded them as well and watched them again later.  I had enough food and drink and if I needed something like bread or milk, I asked my mom to drop it off on her way home.

Basically, I turned into a couch potato.  I didn’t make any effort to go out to do any exercise and I used the stupidest excuse not to: ‘Its late and cold, I’m not going out’, while it was only three o’clock in the afternoon and the house itself was cold, not necessarily the weather.

Not being around people, I automatically started to focus on myself, and not in a good way!  Two of my friends asked me the other day: ‘So, did you start working somewhere?’  That question made me start doubting the future and my purpose in life.  I started pondering thoughts like: ‘Am I good enough to do what I was called to do?’ ‘Will I be able to do it?’ Most of all, I started doubting my God and his plan for my life.  It felt I was throwing my faith down the drain and I had a bad attitude towards God Continue “Sitting still”

LEARN TO COOK

My mom has worked in a pharmacy for eighteen years.  She often works long hours.  When she comes home it is late, so we eat late in the evening.

I have been helping her to make her day easier by learning how to cook.  I can’t cook fancy food, but I can do all the basics that are easy to do and don’t take long.

I want to share with you some of the easy meals I love to cook. Continue “LEARN TO COOK”
