Beauty??
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder….or so they say. After our 30 year celebration last week Wednesday people can’t stop talking about who wore what and how beautiful everyone looked. It was hair and makeup, new shoes, dresses and suits. It was an occasion that called for pulling out all the stops, but what did you expect? We live in a society where that is what it is all about…looking good. These days’ celebrities have more plastic than a sense of humour. So my question for this week is…..
Beauty that is skin deep!
For many beauty is a physical thing, it is about how you look and whether or not you fit the “mould”. Others might think this is very shallow and that beauty is only “skin deep”. But if this is the case why do we spend thousands and thousands each year on looking good? Improving our looks? Trying to fit the mould? We are so preoccupied with what others look at that we don’t even recognise who is staring back at us in the mirror.
Don’t get me wrong I get it, believe me I get it. Life is hard if you are not physically blessed! Kids can be so mean, I just remember when I was at school I was constantly told how horrible looking my nose was, so much so that till this day I dream of having a nose job. These individuals created this illusion in me that if my nose looked different I would be better in some way
We never notice the beauty because we are too busy trying to create it!!
Beauty has no rules!!
Today one of my colleagues shared something very interesting with me. It was an email with so many pictures of these salt flats, it was this unique and amazing landscape with the most beautiful images I have ever seen . There was even a picture of a hotel completely made out of salt.
This obviously reminded me of the ice hotel in Sweden, Which is a hotel completely made out of ice and of course I had to find a picture of it. Continue “Beauty has no rules!!”
Without Wheels
I took my car to a mechanic to replace the shocks, but he ended up replacing the brakes and CV-joints, with the result that I didn’t have my car for a whole week. At first I had no problem if the car had to stay longer than planned because I still have my bike for transport. But I’m very fond of it, and I cannot go everywhere I want to because it could get stolen and I’m not prepared to take the risk.
Cycling in town, where the speed limit is sixty kilometers per hour, is scarier than the open road where I train with cars driving at one hundred kilometers per hour. Continue “Without Wheels”
Things to practice everyday
As world mental health day is coming closer, we are once again on our toes organizing an amazing event (it is going to be a good one). However, these preparations always get me thinking and the thought/question that popped up today was an interesting one…. is life really this hard, or are we making it harder than it has to be? No, really think about it, in terms of spirituality if every person in the world was able to follow 10 simple rules there would be no war, and none of these negative things we face on a daily basis. This is very much part and parcel of what we are doing for mental health day. How to practically take something that is a very complex and difficult thing and make it workable in your life?
3: Appreciating the little things
The one thing we should all definitely learn to do on a daily basis is to appreciate the little things in life. I am astounded sometimes at how people take remarkable things for granted on a daily bases. How many of you woke up this morning to another beautiful day in your warm bed, with a loving family. Well never mind all these things just the fact that you woke up today with another opportunity to make a difference in this world in itself is a miracle.
Chaos or control?
Last week, I went to see my psychologist and psychiatrist. I saw one on Monday and the other on Tuesday. Usually, I like to sleep over because then I can get the most out of the sessions and not be tired from traveling. Continue “Chaos or control?”
Things to do on a daily basis: REST!
“A field that has rested gives a bountiful crop”. Most of us have settled into the usual routine of working 5 days a week and getting everything else done over a weekend. However, rest is an activity that needs to be undertaken on a daily basis and by rest I don’t mean plonking in front of the TV, or sleeping twelve hours a day. Believe it or not but these activities do not provide the needed rest.
A play day
I am one of those very fortunate people that understand the importance of play and likely for me I work for a organisation that see it the same way, which always insures fun projects. Every year for world metal health day our clinic gets involved with some or other project and this year was no different, however this year we really went all out (but that is still a surprise).
