A New Experience

Race day is drawing closer which makes cycling  essential.  It has been three weeks since I had been training on my bike.  On Saturday I set out to do at least ninety kilometers for the day.  I started at 10:00 am and planned to finish at 15:00 pm.  Everything went well.  I was surprised on how well I did. Find happiness through helping!

It’s often said that it’s better to give than to receive. It’s no secret that doing something nice for others makes you feel better about yourself and the world. In healing others, you heal yourself. Today, reach out to someone that may need help. Smile at a stranger, give up your seat to someone that may need it more than you. And remember – kindness is contagious!

I have found that by helping others you may just find things in your life to be grateful for.

Try some exercise

We think of exercise as a purely physical thing and it’s not. Consider these: exercise thinking positively, exercise saying no, exercise loving yourself, exercise listening techniques, exercise abdominal breathing and exercise turning off technology. these are all activities that can be “exercised” on a daily basis for mental health.

However, physical exercise should not be discarded and when I say exercise I don’t mean training for the iron man or the comrades. Do something that is within your physical capabilities, for example instead of driving to the store, walk. This can also be used as an opportunity to reflect on your day or to spend time with your spouse or family members. Physical exercise should be done between 3-4 times a week and it does not need to be long, 20 min at a time will do wonders for your mood.

Learn something new!

One of the happiness factors that we should do on a daily basis is….LEARN! Challenge yourself to learn something new every day, it can be something small like learn how to say hello in a different language or it can be a long term project where you learn a new language.

Make it fun and keep with it. For World Metal Health Day we learned how to make a youtube video so go have a look.

The cracks are starting to show!

The end of the year is drawing closer and it is just a few more months before December holidays, family, sea, sun and just some chill time. However, it seems like we will never get there. Everyone seems to be on edge, we feel the pressure and the cracks are beginning to show.

Colleagues seem to bump heads over the most silly of things and small things that was easy to cope with two months ago, now just become too much to bear. Unfortunately I am no different and the small things are starting to leave their bite marks on me too.

Grateful for the real people

Today I am grateful for the “real” people!!

I truly miss the days before facebook, bbm and what’s app. Sure, it makes some things so much easier. You can keep up with people around the world and that’s great, but 15 years ago if you sent your friend a sms and she did not get back to you right away that was okay. These days with what’s app, facebook and bbm it is all too easy to track whether or not messages have been read, where people are, what they are doing and who they are doing it with.

Help others learn………..to let go

The Happiness Help factor for this week is to help others learn.

So I have decided to touch on something that no one wants to talk about and that is letting go. I watched a very interesting show the other day by the name of hordes. It is a show about about people who literally keeping everything from old news papers, to food to hair because they have this uncontrollable thought that they might need it one day. This reminded me of how many “things” and people we horde on a daily bases, we hold on to things that do nothing, but steal our happiness.
