Depression and spirituality?

Depression is an illness that impacts on all aspects of a sufferer’s life and so often we want to belief that there is a quick fix out there, I mean if depression is an illness then it has a biological component so just treat that component and bam Bob’s you uncle. However, depression affects us on a biological, psychological, social and spiritual level, affecting functioning in all areas of life, so unfortunately no quick fixes sold here.

Spirituality and Depression

Today’s group was the spiritual aspects of anxiety and yesterday’s blog just kept on popping in to my head. People asked the same questions again and again…why me, why is God punishing me??

The truth is God is not punishing us!!! Bad things happen to us because we live in a bad world, we live in a sin filled world and the choices of others have the power to hurt us in the worst possible ways. What we need to address is our view of God.

The whistle that gave me hope!

So as I was sitting at my desk today, really trying hard not to throw my laptop at the nearest wall, I decided to follow my own advice and find an outlet for my frustration, and seeing as braking company property is seriously frowned upon I decided to take a walk.

I am in the fortunate position to be working for a company with beautiful gardens, so I took advantage of this. As I was walking I heard this wolf whistle and at first ignored it then turned around, it was 3 of my work colleagues just soaking up the sun and making the most of their well deserved lunch peace. I decided to join them (for no other reason than to find out what they were laughing about).

Spring has sprung!

Spring has sprung……and change is in the air. I love this time of year, it is a time for new beginnings, and it is a time to marvel at the beauty that the world has to offer. The down side of this is that this is also the time of year where everything has to get done……NOW. The noose is tightening and we start to feel the pressure of life, so much so that we don’t even have time to enjoy the sun on our skin or the song in the air. To be honest with you I am with you in that boat, I don’t have time to stop and smell the roses I have things to do and people to see.

Twelve weeks from Sunday

Twelve weeks from Sunday is the big race day!  It is unbelievable!  During the week I looked at my legs and my pride said: Neh, they can do ninety kilometers; there is no need to continue with training.    Then I thought about the distance and how I would get there without burnout.  There is only one solution: keep on training and do it with purpose.  Over the last week there was very little time to practice.  I was on the road Monday and Tuesday, but only for an hour or two –  not the four hours that is needed at this point. With the wind blowing at 50km an hour here in the Vaal, there is no way that anybody could compete with it!  On windy days I trained in the gym, but I don’t enjoy sitting still for three hours going nowhere! Crunch Time

The end of October is crunch time!  From now until then, cycling is top priority every day.
Rochelle said that I need to push for over four hours!  Thursday I did four and a half hours.  When I stopped, I felt that I could have done much more.  Good news is that there is no pain in my knee.  This is great because it’s a sign that it is getting stronger!  On Friday, my body was sore from the previous day, so I rested. It is time to celebrate…

….or should I rather say it was time to celebrate? Last night Vista Clinic celebrated it’s 30th  centenary and it was loads of fun. Everyone looked absolutely amazing, the venue was exceptional and the food was delicious, but as I was marveling in the excitement something really stood out for me. Almost all of the speeches was about hope and in order to find hope one must celebrate the little things in life….one should celebrate life.

Today I want you to celebrate your life.

Surprise

On Saturday I went out on the road to do five hours.  I decided to take my normal route as if I was doing sixty kilometers. This route usually takes three hours.  When I reached the thirty-kilometers turnaround point, my time was one hour and fifteen minutes.   Halfway back to the starting point I decided to turn around and go back to the thirty-kilometer point and only then turn around and go back.  When I stopped at my car, my total time was four hours fifty minutes.
